Uncertainty at the quarterback position, the turnover in the front office and the salary cap limitations made it as challenging as ever to be excited about this offseason, including the pinnacle of it - the draft.
But then came Kyler Murray and more contract wizardry by Brzezinski to make the upcoming season less bleak.
So with only a few weeks remaining until the names start getting announced, let's get into who may end up donning the royal colors!
And as a bonus we'll get to see some possible landing spots for the latest best of the Bison.
We're down to the final days so the let's keep the mock drafting going!
Here is last week's edition.
Now onto the new one
The odds-on favorite, Dillon Thieneman, was plucked by Detroit one pick before Minnesota which may increase the odds of a trade down if the same were to happen next Thursday. In this case Chicago offered 25 & 57 for 18 & 163 while Tampa came with the 19th & a seventh next year.
I could have stayed and picked Kenyon Sadiq but instead countered TB to get an extra five for 2027. That deal was accepted and the computer gave them Keldric Faulk. New Orleans then came with 42, 73 and a second & fifth next year for 19. Four players for one has some enticement but sticking and picking the replacement for Hockenson won out.
New England & Indy came with deals that could be accepted should be the board go an unappealing way but in this simulation the second-best safety slid to 49 so Toledo's Emmanuel McNeil-Warren got the call.
Buffalo then tried to acquire 82 & 196 with 91 & 126. Moving up 70 by moving down 9 is the kind of intriguing math that the GMs get to play with. Being that there as many holes to fill on the roster as there are, that was an acceptable equation. I squeezed an extra seven next year out of them before moving on to 91.
The pick came down to DT Domonique Orange & CB Malik Muhammed. Whichever one Flores would have a higher opinion of would be the selection nearly 100/100 times but absent that, I went with the bigger need and higher profile for his defense.
Two more trade offers came at 97, Carolina & Denver with the latter's being 108 & a 2027 fourth round pick. Even given the animus toward Denver's head coach that would be hard to pass-up, unless the alternative is a chance to double-up on players considered earlier. So if Muhammed is good, having Orange to hassle the quarterbacks while he shadows is even better!
126 brought a 2-for-2 offer from San Diego but sticking and picking was the right choice and would be during the real thing, given the drop-off in success rate. Kaytron Allen & Demond Claiborne were both considered to improve the running back group but Penn State's Nick Singleton seems like the better option to go along with Jordan Mason when Aaron Jones misses time.
Center may need to be addressed before the fifth round but there will be shortcomings no matter who is picked when and perhaps what they already have can be better just by being the planned options instead of Ryan Kelly. So instead of reaching for someone who may be available in the 200s, I opted for an additional option for the quarterback to throw to - Kendrick Law, Alabama/Kentucky.
A former teammate of Law's, Domani Jackson, could help both of them make the 53 and on potential alone, was worth taking.
USC LB Eric Gentry is another top-of-the-charts athlete who needs to end up in the right situation - who better than to figure out the right situation than the Mad Scientist of Minnesota!
To put a bow on it, Dartmouth's Delby Lemieux could be a gem of a late-round selection as the future center.
As for the locals
Bryce Lance went 65th to New Orleans
Cole Payton went to Pittsburgh at 161
Cole Wisniewski went to Jacksonville at 233
Jack Strand went undrafted
