Not even Thanksgiving but the season is effectively over.
Someone with delusional optimism might say that they can get above .500 and have a shot at a wild card berth.
Delusional being the key word because the NFC is far too loaded for a team with that many losses already to crack the wild card. It's conceivable that a 12-win team won't make the postseason with the way that the wins are piling up.
That's what comes from three straight losses after the second best performance of the season. The team that showed up in Detroit is about as close to a 180 as I hope we will experience. If it gets worse then more people will be replaced after the season ends than are already likely to be.
Matt Daniels isn't responsible for Myles Price committing the latest error on special teams but the frequency of mistakes by his unit mean he's the most likely to go.
Brian Flores has much more credibility but with all the supposed upgrades to talent his unit also continues to struggle.
Then there's the head coach, who even when the running game continues to produce forces the floundering quarterback into bad positions.
In short, it's become a total system failure.
The only bright spot is that the team could get a top 7ish pick
But then the boss would have to get another one right for that to be good.
To KA-M's credit, Donovan Jackson does seem like another long-term building block for the offensive line so maybe after all the swings and misses the evaluation and decision making are turning a corner. Still far too many bad picks to change my mind based on Jackson but with O'Connell & Adofo-Mensah under new extensions the Wilfs are likely to roll forward with those two for at least next season so we should hope for better than the Lewis Cine debacle.
Washington is the only game the rest of the season that might be a pick-em by the odds makers. That's as close as they will get to being favored so while it's not what any of us want before Thanksgiving, it's the situation that has been dealt to us.
Now we just wait to see what we learn from it...
